THE CURRICULUM |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The school curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to achieve. It should develop enjoyment of, and commitment to, learning. All pupils must have breadth and balance in their curriculum diet, which is based around the foundation and core subjects of the National Curriculum.
Most subject operate a system of grouping according to ability. Groups are discussed by subject staff, and pupils can be moved to support their progress further if this is necessary.
Staff in each area have responsibility for helping and supporting pupils with special learning needs. We have one teacher with responsibility for our Gifted and Talented Programme. |

CITIZENSHIP |
|
| |
Citizenship is taught within a number of different subjects at KS3. Pupils learn about issues like human rights, crime, the law and the environment. Citizenship is also experienced outside lessons when pupils are involved in voting for a member of the Youth Parliament, behave as responsible citizens when on reception duty or are active participants in organising the year 8 fund raising afternoon.
At Key Stage Four, pupils develop their knowledge an understanding of active citizenship in their short course GCSE Citizenship lessons which they do in one year. |

MONITORING PUPIL PROGRESS |
|
| |
We provide a Review & Guidance session for all pupils on an individual basis. This is an opportunity for them to assess their progress and discuss targets with the form tutor as well as talking over any other concerns or problems.
We work carefully to monitor the progress of each child. Recently, we have developed an internal system of checking pupils’ progress twice each year. This information is shared with parents as an interim report and gives details of behaviour, classwork, effort and homework in all subjects.
parents are invited into school to discuss progress further with individual subject staff at an annual Consultation Evening. |
