By 2010 all children should have access to a variety of activities beyond the school day. Well organised, safe and stimulating activities before and after school provide children and young people with a wider range of experiences and make a real difference to their chances at school. It gives them the opportunity to keep fit and healthy, to acquire new kills, to build on what they learn during the school day or simply to have fun and relax.
The government wants all children o be able to access the ‘core offer’ by 2010. At Dormston this will eventually include:
- High quality ‘wraparound’ childcare available from 8am – 6pm.
- A varied menu of activities to be on offer, such as homework clubs and study support, sport, music tuition, dance and drama, arts and crafts, visits, ICT and business and enterprise activities.
- Parenting support including information sessions for parents at key transitional points, parenting programmes run with support of other children’s services and family earning sessions.
- Swift and easy referral to a wide range of specialist support services
- Providing wider community access to ICT, sports and arts facilities, including adult learning.
We want to continually improve the extended services we offer to our children, parents and the wider community and we welcome new ideas and suggestions. |
