Homework is an important extension of classwork and compulsory for all year groups. Pupils are issued with a homework diary/planner which should contain a homework timetable and a record of homework set each day. Form tutors check diaries frequently while other staff carry out spot checks. Parents are asked to check homework and sign the diary every week.
It is important that children have the opportunity to complete homework in a quiet, undisturbed setting and pupils may make use of the Learning Resource Centre at lunchtime and out of school hours. Sometimes parents feel there is little they can do to help with homework, but in fact there are many ways. Here are a few:
- Encourage your child
- Check presentation, handwriting and spelling
- Test what has been learned
- Listen to him/her reading what they have written
- Ask for an explanation of what they have been studying.
Homework tasks are many and varied. They may include research, illustration or map work, watching particular television programmes as well as factual or imaginative writing and revision.
