PASTORAL SYSTEM

The care and welfare of our pupils is very high on our agenda. All staff hold responsibilities but most important is the form tutor who will:

  • Get to know each individual in the form
  • Help each child to settle in and feel confident
  • Ensure children establish a productive and effective pattern of work
  • Keep a look out for any problems or worries pupils may encounter
  • Talk and listen to each pupil
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, homework, school uniform and general behaviour

Each year group has a year leader who is responsible for learning within the year group. In 2008/9 leaders are as follows:-

  • Year 7   Mrs Lorraine Jones
  • Year 8   Mrs Candy Woods
  • Year 9   Mr Chris Dudley
  • Year 10 Mr Trevore Gardner
  • Year 11 Mrs Sue Lauchlan

Mrs Lorraine Jones remains Year Leader for Year 7 each academic year. At the end of Year 7 each academic year, another Year Leader will look after the pastoral care of students from Year 8 through to their graduation in Year 11.

At Dormston we have a duty of care and we endeavour to protect all our pupils. If at any time we feel that a child’s welfare has been or is being compromised, then we may wish to discuss the situation rationally and sensitively with parents.

Chaplaincy at Dormston

The primary purpose of the ecumenical chaplaincy is to offer additional support to the Dormston School Community. A team of Christian chaplains will be available on a rota basis, in a place appointed by the school, to meet with any pupil during the school lunch break to offer a listening ear and/or appropriate support and advice. If requested, prayers will be offered with individuals or groups of pupils. Chaplains may be lay or ordained and will be appointed with the approval of both the Governing Body and the ecumenical chaplaincy team. They will belong to churches that are recognised members of the CTE (Churches together in England)
